Chapter Nine

I found Lucifer after breakfast, catching him as he was leaving for school, “Hey Lucifer, can I ask for something?”

“Hm,” his eyebrow raised, “Make it quick as I need to leave.”

“Well, we can walk and talk then, I have my backpack,” I slipped my shoes on and I walked with him to school, “I was wondering if it was possible to add a bathroom to my room.”

“And why would I do that?”

“The only bathroom being upstairs is pretty brutal for such a big house. And having to fight for the bathroom in the morning quite honestly sucks. I’d say just put a bathroom on the ground floor in general but my room is already getting rebuilt, so it’d be a pretty easy addition to make.”

He chuckled, apparently amused, “How thought out. I will consider it.”

“I’ll take it. I didn’t really expect you to outright agree anyways.”

We continued to make small talk as Lucifer took us a different path to school. He normally left pretty early but today he left even earlier. I almost didn’t catch him before he left. My assumption was that there was something pressing at school but apparently he just wanted to stop by a coffee shop on the way to school. Cafe Lament.

“Would you like a coffee,” Lucifer offered.

“Sure, I haven’t been to a coffee shop yet,” I went through the door as he held it open for me.

“Really? It’s a popular coffee shop amongst the students.”

“I’ve only been here two weeks and the morning gets spent fighting for the bathroom.”

“Point taken,” he smirked playfully.

It felt really nice to have a normal conversation with him. I know he’s still got mile-thick walls but some progress is better than no progress. These back and forths also made me realize that he’s quite cute when he’s not scolding someone.

Since it was my first time at the cafe I just went with their original blend, while Lucifer got extra Devildom espresso added to his. We had a pleasant walk to school and I sat in the courtyard until school started. The day went by without incident, along with the next few days.

On Thursday, during afternoon recess, I was hanging out with Mammon and Beel in the classroom of my final class. They were bickering because Beel ate some of Mammon’s food. While I was just watching the show the angels approached us. I smiled and greeted them, while Beel used this to try and get out of the consequences of eating Mammon’s food.

“Hey Simeon,” Beel greeted, “Hey Luke.”

“Good afternoon Beel,” Simeon politely returned, “What are you two fighting about?”

“He ate my sandwich,” Mammon piped up, frustrated all over again.

“I see,” Simeon laughed, “Seems as though things are going well then.”

“What are you two up to,” I asked.

“I was just talking with Luke about how fun a camping retreat would be. But he thinks it’d be dangerous.”

“Of course it’d be dangerous,” Luke exclaimed, completely serious, “Who knows what kind of creatures exist in the Devildom woods?”

“I dunno,” I said, “I’d wanna go camping.”

“Ya like campin’ Drizzm,” Mammon asked, “I can’t stand it. There’s none of the comforts of my bed and stuff when campin’.”

“Camping is fun. Besides, making s’mores while camping is just peak.”

“I love making s’mores,” Beel agreed.

“I can’t believe you’d want to camp in such a dangerous place Drizzm,” Luke sighed.

“It wouldn’t be all that dangerous if it was all of us,” I explained, “I’m sure someone amongst the demons, Simeon, or Solomon could handle what may come.”

“Are you saying I wouldn’t be able to protect you?”

“Would you be able to,” I asked genuinely.

He looked sad, “I don’t know.” “Don’t worry about it Luke. You have plenty of time to come into your own.”

“Yeah, I guess.”

The rest of the day and week passed by without much else to really talk about.
